* MELANIE BROWN: 'IT'S TIME FOR MURPHY TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY' EDDIE MURPHY has been accused of shirking his parental responsibilities by his angry pop star ex. Spice Girl Melanie Brown is disgusted by her former flame's behaviour since he announced the break up on a Dutch TV show last year and denied fathering her then-unborn child. Fuming she was the last to know they had split, the singer adds Murphy has done nothing to help take care of their daughter Angel. She tells essence.com, "I went to London, and on my return flight I learned that he made that announcement about wanting a DNA test on that TV show. Then I saw him on the red carpet with Tracey Edmonds, and that's when I knew we were over. "I called him… , 'I'll call you back' - and he never did. "He was the one who said that he wanted the test, but when it came down to it, I had to force him to take it... wouldn't even show up for a meeting about it. I nearly took him to court." And Brown maintains legal action could still be an option unless Murphy gets more involved in their baby's welfare. She says, "He has to take responsibility. I'm not talking about money - I'm talking about the fact that Angel has a mum and a dad." * FRIEND TESTIFIES LANA CLARKSON WAS 'DEPRESSED AND DISILLUSIONED' LATEST: Actress LANA CLARKSON had "hit a wall in her personal life" just days before she was found dead in PHIL SPECTOR's house, according to a close friend. Spector is currently standing trial accused of the fatal shooting of Clarkson at his Alhambra, California mansion in February 2003. He has pleaded not guilty and claims Clarkson committed suicide - and the actress's pal concedes it is possible considering her confused state of mind. In his testimony on Tuesday , independent film producer Greg H. Sims claims a drunk Clarkson poured her heart out to him for nearly two hours just days before her death. After a dinner party, Sims recalls Clarkson voiced her disillusionment with the film industry and her disappointment at being single and childless. He recalled, "She was reaching a certain level of sadness, hitting a wall in her personal life." However, prosecutor Pat Dixon dismissed Clarkson's mental state as typical of many actresses. Sims agreed it could be true but added, "It felt serious for me about where she was at and it was just before she died." The trial continues. * JAY-Z TO PART WITH RECORD LABEL? Hip-hop mogul SEAN 'JAY-Z' CARTER is parting ways with his record label, according to reports. The rapper is rumoured to be leaving his position as CEO and president of Def Jam following the appointment of superproducer/performer Jermaine Dupri as the president of the label's urban music division in February this year , and is alleged to be in negotiations with Columbia - home to Carter's girlfriend Beyonce. A source tells the New York Daily News, "There isn't room for two kings at one label. "Why would Island bring in another power-hitter urban guy?" * SUMMERS: 'THE POLICE IS A NEW BAND' THE POLICE star ANDY SUMMERS has hailed his reformed group "a new band", because their music sounds fresher than ever. The guitarist argues the 1980s band haven't 'reunited' - because their brand new sound deserves a different classification. He says, "It just all sounds non-creative to me. "The kind of chemistry in our band, there's no reunion. It's like, 'OK, we're back together, how do we make this work on all levels?' "In a sense, it feels more like a new band. It doesn't feel like some old band and we're just going to kind of try to remember the way the old songs went and do them just like that. That wasn't the spirit that made the Police what it was." Summers joined up with bandmates Sting and Stewart Copeland earlier this year for a tour to mark the 30th anniversary of the first Police single. * HILL AND McGRAW DONATE SHOW PROFITS TO KATRINA CHARITY Country singers FAITH HILL and TIM McGRAW have vowed to donate all proceeds from a forthcoming gig to help those still affected by 2005's Hurricane Katrina. The husband and wife team, who are currently touring together with their Soul2Soul shows, will play a concert on Friday in Biloxi, Mississippi and have pledged one hundred per cent of the money raised will go to the Neighbours Keeper Foundation. The charity, set up by Hill and McGraw in 2005, provides local services to those still badly affected by Hurricane Katrina, which hit in August that year. Last year , Mississippi native Hill and McGraw performed in New Orleans, raising $1 million for hurricane relief efforts. * JONI MITCHELL SIGNS STARBUCKS DEAL Singing legend JONI MITCHELL is set to follow in the footsteps of SIR PAUL McCARTNEY by signing an album distribution deal with coffee giant Starbucks. The Big Yellow Taxi star is the latest signing to the chain's Hear Music label, and will release her first new work in almost ten years in Starbucks stores. McCartney sparked controversy last month for choosing to distribute Memory Almost Full through Starbucks - but almost 45 per cent of the disc's 447,000 sales originated from the chain's stores. Shine will be released on the Hear Music label on 25 September . * MAYER BLASTS UNDERAGE DRINKERS Rocker JOHN MAYER has blasted underage drinkers in an internet rant after 63 people were arrested at his show on Saturday . Under 21-year-olds made up 46 of those detained by police at the Hershey Park Pavilion gig in Pennsylvania, and Mayer is disappointed his fans were so stupid. He writes on his official blog, "To the 46 people accused of underage drinking; what were you thinking? You have your whole life to engage in underage drinking. What's the hurry? "I didn't start underage drinking until I was 26. Underage drinking is not an function of age, but of style. And you kids are way too young to truly appreciate the nuances of true underage drinking." He adds in a more light-hearted tone, "Though the names of the arrested were not released to the public, I was able to obtain them by way of my well-placed source in the Hershey police department. Upon first glance, I find it interesting that of the 63 arrested, 55 were named Kyle. "In looking to the future, I hope that this will serve as a wake-up call to young fans who may be thinking about engaging in illegal activity at one of my concerts. If I happen to be walking backstage and I see any of you young men passed out drunk on a stretcher, make no mistake about it, you will come-to in front of your disappointed parents with a face full of Sharpie and the sneaking
suspicion that you've been teabagged by one of Time magazine's 100 most influential
people of 2007." * KEYS 'SAVED' BY MUSIC R&B star ALICIA KEYS turns to her love for music whenever she feels depressed - and credits her new album with saving her life. The Fallin' singer has not released a new studio album in four years , but is finally preparing to drop her new album As I Am after a "roller-coaster year", which has seen the 27-year-old venture into Hollywood with a role in movie Smoking Aces. She says, "I needed this music more than it needed me. "This year's been a roller-coaster, but as down as I've been, I've learned so much. I found beauty during the dark times." * THE THINGS THEY SAY: "I called his assistant to let her know I was going into labour... And still nothing; not even a hello to the baby, not even a or flowers." MELANIE BROWN is furious her ex EDDIE MURPHY snubbed the birth of their baby daughter Angel in April . * THE THINGS THEY SAY: "Most of the stuff on the radio is just crap pop music." Veteran Northern Irish singer VAN MORRISON isn't a fan of today's hits. * CELEBRITY LAWYER: 'LOHAN FACES JAIL' Troubled actress LINDSAY LOHAN is facing a mandatory jail sentence after her arrest for drink driving on Tuesday . The 21-year-old was arrested for drink driving and drug possession after a car chase in Santa Monica - just two months after she was involved in a drunken car crash in Los Angeles. Under California law the two DUI charges in close succession means prosecutors can push for a minimum of four days in jail. And celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos - who has defended Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder - warns Lohan she faces time behind bars. He said on talk show Larry King Live on Tuesday, "Everybody talks about the second DUI and that's the problem. "The prosecutor, depending on who it is and what they want to do, can allege she's committed a new crime. That's the real problem here. That's where she faces some significant possibility of real jail time, not just the 96 hours that's mandatory minimum for a second offense. "You've got that original felony and she's out, you know, on her own recognizance and then picks up a second felony, you can put an allegation in there that potentially raises the stakes from just a - what would normally be a county jail case to a state prison case. "Is a plea bargain in the works? It's not just a possibility, it's an absolute reality. They're not going to fight this. They're going to go in there. They're going to beg. They're going to plead. And they're going to do whatever they think they can to get a deal in this case." * PRINCE CHARLES PASSES ON DOCTOR WHO CAMEO British royal PRINCE CHARLES has ruled out a return to the U.K's TV screens - after turning down a role in sci-fi series DOCTOR WHO. Charles made a special guest appearance in an episode of Manchester-based soap Coronation Street to commemorate the show's 40th birthday in 2000, but has passed on the offer to make a cameo in the BBC show's Christmas special - despite pleas from programme bosses. Phil Collinson, Doctor Who's producer, says, "We recently approached Charles because we had some great ideas for him in the show. "Unfortunately he politely declined but he did say he was a big fan of the show." Australian pop star Kylie Minogue confirmed an appearance in Doctor Who earlier this month . * LOHAN'S MOTHER 'SICK' OVER ARREST LINDSAY LOHAN's mother is "sick" with worry after the actress' drink driving arrest - but has vowed not to "give up" on her daughter. The 21-year-old was arrested in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday morning , just ten days after leaving rehab and two months after she was involved in a drunken car crash in Los Angeles. Dina Lohan has reassured fans Lindsay is safe and well - but has taken a swipe at the media for hounding the star and her family. She says, "We are doing everything in our power in support of Lindsay and I won't give up - this is my daughter and we love her. "I am sick over this. My children, my family, we are like prisoners in our own home because paparazzi outside home. Lindsay is in a safe place, and we are trying to strategically work out our next step." * BELL FINDS FIRST SEX SCENE TOO NERVE-RACKING British actor JAMIE BELL felt so uncomfortable in his first movie sex scene he wanted to hide his genitals with a sock. The Billy Elliot star couldn't bear the thought of baring his penis to the 30-strong crew on the set of romantic drama Hallam Foe, and the 21-year-old struggled to rid himself of nerves ahead of his nude scene. He says, "I asked the director if I could cover my intimate parts with socks, but he said no. "For all the people around it was just another movie scene, but I was horribly nervous." * DIAZ'S INDIANA JONES OBSESSION Actress CAMERON DIAZ was so obsessed with RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK as a child she watched it over and over again every day. The star loved the 1981 action movie about intrepid archaeologist Indiana Jones, and genuinely believed her life would turn out to be just as exciting as his. She recalls, "When I was younger, I used to watch it every day, and sometimes even twice a day. "That was how I thought people lived their lives - travelling and having adventures." * NOAH HATHAWAY TO BATTLE TROLL AGAIN Former child star NOAH HATHAWAY has signed to star in a remake of his most famous film, 1986 fantasy TROLL. The 35-year-old Never Ending Story star played a teenager battling an evil troll in the film. Director John Carl Buechler is remaking the movie - and is keen to cast Hathaway in a different role. Police claim Carter was found carrying a .40 calibre pistol after he was stopped for smoking marijuana, while another associate was found attempting to flush 0.5 pounds of the drug down the toilet. Carter was released on Monday on $70,000 bond. Meanwhile, the Always On Time star - real name Jeffrey Atkins - and two associates were arrested in Manhattan on Sunday for speeding, and a search of their vehicle uncovered a .40 calibre pistol. He was charged with gun possession and released on $150,000 bond on Monday, using his mansion in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, as collateral for the $320,000 combined bail for he and his two associates. After his release, Atkins told reporters: "Everybody wants to point fingers at hip-hop for the destruction of America's youth. If you need to know why there is so much crime, corruption, hatred and violence, you need only look at yourselves." Lawyer Stacey Richman, who represented both hip-hop stars, claims her clients are innocent and were punished with higher bail bonds because of their celebrity status. She tells SOHH.com, "We absolutely maintain that we are not guilty of these charges." The two Universal artists could each be sentenced for up to three-and-a-half years behind bars if they are found guilty of the weapons offences. They are due back in court on Friday . * SPEARS' UMBRELLA AND CAR UP FOR AUCTION ON EBAY BRITNEY SPEARS' silver sports utility vehicle and the umbrella she used to attack paparazzi earlier this year have been put up for sale on auction website eBay - for a starting price of $25,000 . The troubled pop star recently apologised for the bizarre incident outside estranged husband Kevin Federline's house - the night before she entered rehab in February - and attributed her unusual behaviour to preparation for a part in a movie about a much-maligned wife who swaps places with her husband. And now, according to TMZ.com, the singer's fans can get their hands on the weapon in question and the 2002 Ford Explorer she was driving on that fateful night by placing their bids on eBay. * CHAMILLIONAIRE REFUSES TO TAKE 50'S BAIT CHAMILLIONAIRE has refused to respond to disparaging remarks made about the rapper by 50 CENT, because he believes the G-UNIT star is just using the war of words as a "gimmick". 50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - attacked the Ridin' Dirty hitmaker in a recent issue of U.S. magazine Spin, in which he criticised his rival for bowing to public pressure to censor rap music. He said: "Let him go sell gospel records, if he's so f**kin' righteous. I can write around the curses if I want to, but you can't tell me to write around the curses." But Chamillionaire - born Hakeem Seriki - insists he is not intimidated by such attention-grabbing comments by the In Da Club star. He tells AllHipHop.com, "There are way more interesting things to talk about, besides beef and dissing people. "I'ma leave that to everybody else. There was a time were the hip-hop battle was cool, cause it was lyrical or whatever, but now, its stale, people used it as a gimmick." * DALTREY ATTACKS BRITISH GOVERNMENT OVER ROYALTY LAW THE WHO's ROGER DALTREY has launched a stinging attack on the British government, accusing Prime Minister Gordon Brown of failing to look after the country's musicians by protecting their royalties. The rocker, 63, is angry the Department of Culture has rejected calls to extend the period of time during which musicians are entitled to receive royalty payments for the songs they write. Under current U.K. law, artists are allowed to claim royalties for 50 years, while authors, playwrights and composers are entitled to copyright protection for their whole lives - and 70 years after their passing. And Daltrey insists the royalty extension is a necessity for ageing stars like himself. He says, "Thousands of musicians have no pensions and rely on royalties to support themselves. "They aren't asking for a hand-out, just a fair reward for their endeavours." * MADONNA CHASTISES RUDE CREWMEMBER Pop superstar MADONNA hit out at the crew on the set of husband GUY RITCHIE's new film ROCKNROLLA, after a member of staff referred to their adopted son David Banda as "Lucky B**tard", according to reports. The Material Girl and the moviemaker adopted the tot from a Malawian orphanage in October , and Madonna proved how protective a mother she is to the now two-year-old child when she chastised the female crewmember for the offending comment. The incident took place after one set worker asked what the toddler's name was, to which the girl replied, "Lucky B**tard". A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Madonna looked astonished by what was said and words were exchanged between them. " seemed very protective of her son and didn't want anyone talking of him in such a manner. "At the end of the day, she's just a mum and doesn't want anyone speaking ill of her family. She looked really hurt and shocked by the comment and let her feelings be made known." A spokesperson for the film refused to comment on the alleged incident. * LIL' FLIP: 'I'M THE VICTIM OF A SCAM' Rapper LIL' FLIP has protested his innocence in his recent arrest for alleged credit card abuse, insisting he is "a victim of a scam". The hip-hop star - real name Wesley Weston - was reprimanded in his hometown of Houston, Texas, on Saturday after turning himself into authorities at Harris County Courthouse. Weston, who was released on $2,000 bond, is accused of purchasing $671 -worth of plane tickets from Houston to Baltimore, Maryland, with a stolen credit card. But the Game Over hitmaker denies any wrongdoing and claims he has been set up. His manager Sandy Lal tells AllHipHop.com, "Flip had absolutely no involvement with any sort of credit card fraud. "He never personally handles any travel arrangements, that is left to promoters and travel agents. Any wrongdoing of any sort clearly in their hands." His attorney, Stanley Schneider, adds, "Lil' Flip nor anyone associated with him had any knowledge that stolen credit card was being used by a person hired to arrange his travel. "A complete investigation will easily show that Lil' Flip is innocent." * JOSS STONE: 'I'M NOT ENGAGED' Soul singer JOSS STONE has laughed off reports she is engaged to be married, insisting she "doesn't even have a boyfriend". The Speed Of Sound hitmakers went through each of the 25 songs they had recorded in their London studio for the follow-up to X&Y - but decided most of the new material was below par. And the band - fronted by Chris Martin - have blamed lack of inspiration and in-fighting between the four members and producers for the delay in their new project. A posting by Coldplay insider Prospekt on the group's official website reads: "When you place six strong-willed men in a small room for 10 months working 10-12 hours a day on something they care about passionately, friction is inevitable. "We shared out thoughts about each and every track. We talked about what needed to be added, what needed to be removed, what sounded new and exciting and what sounded tired and old. The meeting was a ruthless dissection of all the work done so far. "Very little material got the unreserved thumbs-up." Coldplay's last album, X&Y, was released in 2005. * LOHAN SNR ORDERED TO STAY AWAY FROM LINDSAY LINDSAY LOHAN's estranged father has been told to stay away from the troubled actress - or risk violating the terms of his parole. After watching England play India, the young actor made his way to a private members' club in the trendy Soho area of London, where he partied into the early hours with friends - watched over by his parents Alan and Marcia. Desperate to maintain his clean-cut image as the boy wizard, his publicist Vanessa Davies says, "He was absolutely not drinking Fosters or any other lager . "The question as to whether Daniel was or wasn't drinking alcohol at his birthday party last night, I am not willing to discuss. Daniel is now 18 and the question of whether he chooses to consume alcohol at a private function or not is completely up to him." * CRUISE UPSETS COLORADO NEIGHBOURS WITH CINEMA PLANS TOM CRUISE is facing criticism from his neighbours in Colorado, after it emerged he plans to rent out the entire local cinema for his personal use at a cost of $1,000 a day. Kelley and their two children - 14-year-old Claudia and 12-year-old Jack - and has decided to cut back on her acting work to fit in with her family's schedule. She says, "When I look at doing something and have to be away, if it's at a time when they can't come with me, like during the school year, then I need to be able to come back and forth.
