After more than 11 years together the pair revealed they have been separated for several months amidst rumours that their marriage was in crisis.
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months, the statement said.
"The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children."
Duchovny, 48, and Leoni, 42, have two children, daughter Madelaine, 9, and son Kyd, 6.
They wed in New York in 1997 in a low-key ceremony at Grace Church School, where Duchovny's mother teaches. The couple's marriage recently came under scrutiny after Duchovny was admitted to rehab for sex addiction on August 28.
Duchovny rose to prominence as 'Fox Mulder' in the cult 90s sci-fi series 'X-Files', and is currently starring in the critically acclaimed US show 'Californication'.
Leoni has appeared in a number big budget moves including 'Bad Boys', 'Jurassic Park 3', and the more recent 'Ghost Town'.
