Cheryl Cole sues newspapers over cheating allegations

14 Nov 2008

GIRLS ALOUD star CHERYL COLE's husband ASHLEY is suing two UK newspaper groups for printing allegations he cheated on his wife.

The soccer star is taking Britain's Mirror Group Newspapers and News Group Newspapers to London's High Court, claiming the reports were "unjustified intrusion" into his private life and breached his human rights.

The sportsman was accused of having an affair earlier this year (Jan08) - and the reports left him and his X Factor judge wife "embarrassed and gravely distressed", according to legal papers.

Cole claims that some of the information in the articles was "false and invented" - although he will not have to declare which parts were untrue in court.

Cole's lawyers are seeking unspecified damages and will argue the articles breached his right to privacy under the European Convention on Human Rights.

Representatives for the Mirror Group Newspapers claim that the articles were justified because the couple repeatedly compromised their own privacy by giving interviews about their relationship.

The couple have since got their marriage back on track.

What an idiot... dragging it all through the papers AGAIN is hardly going to improve his marriage! I would alsom be prepared to bet good money that the Mirror will come out with all guns blazing, quite likely producing even more 'evidence'(ie: sleazy slappers) than they did first-time round!
