Blake Fielder-Civil

Blake Fielder-Civil's fate now in hands of jury

25 June 2008

The jury presiding over AMY WINEHOUSE's husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL's trial for assault and perverting the course of justice have retired to consider their verdict.

The 26-year-old is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to London pub landlord James King in an incident in June 2006. In a bizarre twist, Fielder-Civil was then charged with teaming up with King to try to fix the outcome of that trial, by offering him a $400,000 (£200,000) bribe.

Fielder-Civil - who is on remand at the capital's Pentonville Prison - initially denied the allegations, but later changed his plea to guilty during his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London.

Fielder-Civil's co-defendant Michael Brown, 25 has pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm, while Brown, Anthony Kelly, 25, and James Kennedy, 19, have all pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.

King is also on trial for attempting to pervert the course of justice, but he has entered a not guilty plea. The trial kicked off at the beginning of the month (Jun08) and has seen occasional appearances by Winehouse.

The jury members retired on Tuesday (24Jun08) and are expected to deliver their verdict in the next few days, at which point they will be sentenced.
