Amy Winehouse warned to quit drugs or die

18 June 2008

TDoctors have reportedly presented AMY WINEHOUSE with an ultimatum: she must quit abusing drugs now - or risks heading to an early grave.

The troubled star was rushed to a private London clinic in Marylebone on Monday (16Jun08) after she fainted at her London home.

Tests to determine the cause of the collapse have so far proved inconclusive, but on Tuesday (17Jun08), the 24-year-old was allegedly warned by health experts her drug addiction will end her life - unless she manages to kick her habit once and for all.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun: "She might have escaped this time, but eventually she won't get up again. The only thing to stop that happening is if she quits drugs."

There have been concerns for Winehouse's health since she was admitted to the hospital in August last year (07)

After reading a few of the comments below, i was kind of shocked.'There are so many other wanna be icons who can fill her place!!!! WHO CARES IF SHE DIES!!!' What the ....Drug addiction is most definately a disease, as well as alcoholism.i know this for a fact, because i too have suffered from it in the past. It's an ongoing process to keep on the straight and narrow. i couldn't agree more with what sharon has written!!! i only pray that things go a little better for amy

If you have not suffered from the DISEASE of addiction you obviously wouldn't understand, even if you have watched someone go through it. I know what i am talking about, as i have been there.where is your empathy???? If someone is an addict it starts long before you take that first drug. Addicts are not wired up like "NORMAL" people. We have a craving for acceptance. We grow up full of fear. fear of change, fear of the unkown, fear of reality. the drugs and alcohol come later, to fill that void we have inside. Please try to understand befor eyou condemn.

But addiction aint a disease sharon!it is simply an addiction and a very dangerous one at that. i do how ever feel that everything else you speak of is true, only having watched someone close go through the torment, i just hope that Amy can beat her addiction and sing for many happy years to come.

In reply to Brit, who spouted off about Cancer etc being a disease. If you know nothing about the disease of addiction then you should not be commenting on it. Walk in someone else's shoes before you judge them. I am not condoning Amy's behaviour at all. I can empathise because i have been where she is and when someone is in the grip of addiction their choice is taken away, but i would not expect the closed minded people out there to understand. I agree it is someone's own choice to use drugs, but once addiction has a grip of you it takes a lot to get off it. As Rachel said, she bets Amy wishes she'd never taken drugs'. I wish i hadn't, but i did. fortunately i no longer take drugs or drink alcohol because as an addict you only have to put one mood altering chemical in your system and it sets of a compulsion and obsession in your brain that makes you crave more. Wish some would stop saying she is a bad role model. She doesn't flaunt it. Ok she's no mary poppins but just has a drug problem. I would not want my child being a singer to be honest cos of the weird types that are in the music industry and that u know they would be offered them at some party at some point. So many singers - think Michael Hutchence for instance. They find it so hard to get that buzz after they go back to a normal daily life between concerts. Some are lucky and grounded like Sting but some are not so lucky. We need to understand more. I am not a drug taker but understand to a certain extent. Bet she wishes she'd never tried it the first time too.

Sorry Brit, but i agree to a point but Amy got in with the wrong crowd and cos she feels she needs that extra lift before going on stage. The body language says a lot about her if u ever look. U don't choose that first time but how long is it before u get hooked ? She needs to see a psychologist and get herself sorted out. If she stays in rehab for long enough and with therapy and a divorce she could kick this. She needs family round her. Brit, ur not a well known singer with due respect.

She is so skinny it's scary. She uses drugs to give her confidence on stage and to replace the need to eat in my opinion and have always thought that. Women feel that stupid pressure to be stick thin when they are well known and on stage. I've seen her on the tv and in concert once. She has a great voice but she has gotta get rid of that loser, hanger on junkie, dead head husband of hers. I do fear for her but why isn't anyone forcing her to stay for longer in rehab this time. I would drag her there if she were my daughter. It's only getting worse. She isn't a naturally confident person and someone has to step before something real bad happens. Come on Amy, pull yourself together. Could be a great life

My drugged Up Life - The Musical staring Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty in the leading roles. The storyline ... how many times we can get busted by the cops for drug abuse and still walk out that same day - What does the above say about role models? I hear what Sharon is saying on being an ex addict and how once you get into it its hard to get out. But why get into it the first place. Is it wanting to emulate the great rock stars of the past who themselves died from an OD? I would imagine so ... or is it to do with I am above the law attitude - this is the scary one. Ask any kid below the age of 18 what they want to be ... they all say they want to be a pop/rock star. The reason ... it has nothing to do with the music, rather they want the fame, the money, the sex, the drugs and the fact that when you are famous you can use the get out of jail card again and again and again!

Who cares? She'll die from drugs and alcohol abuse, and some other wannabe legend will take her place. The music scene is full of young impressionable talents who will do almost anything to get their names in the tabloids. The best we can do for this sad case is to just stop reading/listening/caring. She'll decide her own fate one way or the other.

Sharon, cancer, for example, is a disease which kills people, which they have no choice or control over. Addiction is an 'addiction', people have the choice to refuse drugs, not the right to refuse cancer or all the other diseases out there. I like Amy Winehouse's music, but for god's sake I wish idiots like you would stop calling what she does a disease when in fact it is a 'drug habit'. I suffer from depression and anxiety brought on by various traumas in my life, I have been in the position where I could have accepted drugs on several occasions, but I chose not to take the 'disease'....do you see where I'm going here.

Amy has a disease called addiction. She did not ask to be an addict, she just is. As a recovering addict myself i can empathise with her. No one has the right to judge Amy. Try walking in her shoes before you start name calling. the only way Amy can get clean and stay clean is to admit she is powerless over her addiction. She must want to get clean and want it for herself. You cannot stay clean for others. The only thing that ever worked for me and has done for the past five years i s Narcotics Anonymous and a 12 step programme. No one can help Amy unless she wants to help herself. godbless her. I hope she makes the right choice x

the media must take 99% of the responsibility.Ok any1 with an once of street cred can see she does drugs. So does 95% of the population by a dictionary definition of drugs. But the media wants its £££s at any cost.As for PURE heroin its 100%medical fact that it has zero effect on life expectancy.Crack-thats a different story.I hope all the fat ****,smoking, drinking, car driving(crashing)anorexic fools who critice her can justify why the public should spend one penny on their own self inflicted bodys/minds.In fact take it to its conclusion and bar hospital entrance to an1 whos ever eaten a big mac.You know how many people die of car crashes every year in comparison to heroin Heroin&morphine(per year)842,Tobacco 86500,drink 6627,car crashes(mostly completely innocent people)4500.Remember that next time you drive, smoke, drink, heroin addicts kill themselves car drivers kill innocent kids.Obesity is linked with 1 in every 11 deaths!!!Get yo

Peoples are very quick at judging but amy has been through alot so it must be hard for her. she needs to put things right in her life and stop drugs before she ruins her lovely voice but also her life. It's not really fair she hasn't been arrested though any average person would have.

Its easy for everyone to judge, but unless you have been in that position you will never know how hard it is.... Also just because she has money etc.. doesnt mean she is happy the question is what made her turn to drugs in the first place? she needs to put right what made her turn to them and then kick her drug habit!! hope she does it for herself as i love her music!!

This young lady needs serious help and fast. She should be sectioned under the mental health act for her own safety and also given a court order to stay away from anyone that she knowingly takes or supplies drugs, once she is clean. I am a parent of a girl the same age as Amy, and i would have no hesitation in doing whatever it took to save her. DONT KNOCK THE GIRL, HELP HER.

She's not alone in her way of life, people like that mega rich, think they can do anything in life but they find out the hard way there'r not Imortal Amy Winehouse has a lot of growing up to do and get herself back to reality, stating by getting away from the deadbeats who are suppose to be her friends once that happens she's got the best chance in life to beat the habit. The Best of Luck to Her.

Having had drug problems in my family (my sister is a recovering heroin addict), I get totally frustrated when people like Amy (and Pete) get glorified and they are never out of the media. As we all know it's not big or clever to take drugs and hopefully this fright has given Amy the jolt to get herself better. I just hope it's not too late for her - my sister has been left with mental health problems due to her addiction. I know the old saying "you can lead a horse to water......." but for heavens sake do we really need this as heavily publicised making alot of youngsters think its cool to do drugs? I hope Amy makes the right choice and can see that there is a better way of living. xx

just because of her celeb status its a big deal but in the real world shes just another junkie that buys the poison that dealers sell. if she wants to kill herself then let her, shes not the only junkie in the world, i just feel sorry for her friends and family having to watch a talented musician destroy and possibly even kill herself, to be in the financial position she is and she could have so much more than drugs, Amy, get a proper life!!!

I agree with Tasha. If you have talent then size, looks etc. shouldn't prevent you from being given the chance to succeed. I would rather see a size 26 lady with a wonderful voice sing than a stick thin, wasted druggie still under the influence of... Amy does have access to help which she can easily fund, not all addicts have this chance. I guess some folk just can't handle the fame and the lifestyle that so many choose. Focus on the positive things in your life Amy and grow up! So many kids want to live but may not be able to for conditions suffered that are beyond their control, Amy has a chance to live and turn her sad, sorry life around. Grab it! PS Let her do what she has to, whether it be taking more drugs or accepting help, without the press giving us more stories. Don't glorify her.
