Gary Glitter

Gary Glitter will return to UK

15 Aug 2008

Shamed pop star GARY GLITTER will be deported to his native Britain when he is released from a Vietnamese prison next week, his lawyer has confirmed.

The Leader of the Gang singer - real name Paul Gadd - is currently nearing the end of his three-year sentence at Vietnam's Thu Doc jail after he was convicted on child sex offences following his arrest in November 2005.

Glitter, 64, is due to be released from the prison in Binh Thuan on 19 August (08). And his attorney, Le Thanh Kinh, has confirmed reports Glitter will be returning to the U.K.

He says, "I paid for the ticket for him (Glitter). He's a British citizen, (Vietnam) wants him to go back to the U.K."

Kinh has previously claimed Glitter will not have to sign the British sex offenders register when he re-enters the country, but a spokesperson for the British Home Office has hinted that his return may not be quite so straight forward.

The representative, who refuses to comment specifically on Glitter's case, says, "When it is known that a sex offender convicted in another country is to be deported to the U.K., he is met at the port of entry by police who interview him and pass any relevant information to the police in the area in which the offender is proposing to live.

"Offenders convicted of sexual offences whether in the U.K. or overseas may be monitored under multi-agency public protection arrangements."

Celeb or not - same rule should apply to every human being! He has the right to live where he wants as long as others around him are warned!

Hasn't Gadd got enough sex convictions in this country, let alone elsewhere, to warrant him signing the sex offenders register??? The Vietnamese should've hacked off his nuts! The Arabs would've!
