![]() Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal 'hams' it up for a slightly less serious cameo role
This is for a role in a US comedy show. The Oscar winner, 26, hosted Saturday Night Live, wowing fans by dressing up as Dreamgirls' Effie White, played by Jennifer Hudson in the hit movie. Shouting "I'm pregnant!", he rips off his clothes to resemble Effie, the curvy lead singer with a big voice who gets ditched from the band in favour of the more svelte Deena (Beyonce Knowles). Wearing a full-length spangly dress and a black wig, Gyllenhaal has the audience in stitches as he sings in a high-pitched voice. He claims he is performing the song to please Brokeback Mountain fans, pointing to two gay cowboys in the front row of the studio. Gyllenhaal says: "The support for that film was amazing, I'd like do something special for them. I'd like to perform a song from the movie Dreamgirls." In another skit, Gyllenhaal plays a bike-mad geek who is desperately trying to promote his book on TV - but the two female hosts keep interrupting him, telling him he's "adorable". And later, he plays a nervous man trying to impress his girlfriend on their first date. After boasting how "cool" the food at the restaurant is, the proof comes when dancing, smoking meatballs in sunglasses appear in their spaghetti. His date is so hungry she spears his all-singing meatball. Gyllenhaal tells her: "Hey you know what we should do? We should stop doing mushrooms when we go to restaurants.." In other sketches, the star accepts a gold trophy at the "Stock Footage Awards", plays an over-confident wannabe actor in a "Law and Order Acting Workshop", and a man trying to assure his friends that it's fine to be in a wheelchair, because he likes "sitting". |
