The Oscar-nominated 'Walk The Line' and 'Gladiator' actor claims he is giving up movies.
He insists romantic drama 'Two Lovers', which he recently finished shooting with Gwyneth Paltrow, will be his last film.
Phoenix told US TV show 'Extra': "I want to take this opportunity to give you the exclusive... that this will be my last performance as an actor. I'm not doing films any more."
The star, who performed all the songs in his Oscar-nominated turn as music legend Johnny Cash, added: "I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."
Phoenix's 'To Die For' co-star Casey Affleck believes he is deadly serious about calling it a day.
He said: "I don't think he's kidding. He's got music and stuff."
It emerged earlier this year that Phoenix is recording and album of his own with the help of Tim Burgess, lead singer of Brit band 'The Charlatans'.
Phoenix performed nine songs in character as Johnny Cash for the Grammy-winning 'Walk the Line' soundtrack.
